Kelley Create supports VECA to transform print productivity with the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer .“Previously color was prohibitively expensive but vital in construction plans. Red-line drawings are an integral part of progress updates on projects. With the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer our cost savings on color are huge; as a result color can be the standard.” Laura Rannow, office manager, VECA Electric
Delivering construction drawings fast
VECA Electric works on some of the biggest commercial construction projects in Washington. It has been in business for more than 70 years, and now has over 600 employees. It is expecting 2016 to be a record-breaking year.
The company has electricians in the field throughout Washington, working on new builds and refits, all relying on up-to-date accurate drawings and plans to be available when and where required.
“Construction sites need a range of prints – from estimates to build updates. We print hundreds of copies at a time and our electricians need them fast. Speed is essential. We aim to turn jobs around in minutes.” says Laura Rannow, office manager, VECA
With prints playing a fundamental part in VECA’s business, when the time came to replace its aging printers, Rannow turned to the expertise of Kelley Create to recommend the best solution to meet the company’s production requirements.
Savings with increased productivity and versatility
“VECA’s printers were slow and took time to recalibrate causing delays. Due to the cost of servicing and print consumables, along with the impact of print downtime, the cost per print was too high. We estimated VECA could save 30 percent by switching to the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer,” explains Anton Karm, Kelley Create.
The HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer is the fastest large-format monochrome and color printer on the market. Not only did it offer the speed VECA required, it brought with it the capability of producing mono’ and color prints in one machine. Outsourcing color print jobs had proved incredibly expensive for VECA. With electricians needing more color detail in their plans, an improved in-house color print service, made a straightforward business case for VECA.
“When we saw the HP PageWide XL printer in action it just floored us. The speed was unreal. I knew it was the machine for us,” says Rannow. VECA invested in the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer, loaded with HP SmartStream software and six rolls.
Crisp detail, color as standard
“The HP PageWide XL printer is faster to start up and can run without an operator for longer than our previous printers. We’ve not only been impressed by the speed, the print clarity is superb. Electrical drawings require a huge amount of detail. You need a really crisp print to see the individual lines on what can be a very busy page.
“Going through the figures, and comparing what we were paying for two machines, one to produce mono’ and one color, and the productivity of the HP PageWide XL 8000 Printer, it has proven to be a much better value,” confirms Rannow.
“Our print control department is turning documents around so quickly they’ve become known as the Print Ninjas. Our electricians in the field are coming to us with more requests because they can receive the prints they need quickly. We’ve even had general contractors refer to our drawings rather than their own because ours are clearer and more up to date.”
